Facebook is rolling out a notification screen to warn users if they are sharing a news article that is over 90 days old. Users will have the option to ‘go back’ or continue to share the article if they decide it is still relevant. The social media giant acknowledged that old articles shared without their original context can spread misinformation. "Over the past several months, our internal research found that the timeliness of an article is an important piece of context that helps people decide what to read, trust and share," John Hegeman, Facebook's Vice President of Feed and Stories. News publishers have expressed concerns about old stories being framed as if they contain new information. Facebook also announced that they are considering introducing similar screens on posts related to COVID-19.
