A court in Brazil has given former football superstar Robinho 15 days to challenge Italy’s request to arrest and imprison him for rape. Italian authorities want the former AC Milan forward to serve his nine year sentence in Brazil as his home country doesn’t extradite nationals. Robinho was convicted in Italy in 2017 for his part in a group sexual assault during his time in Milan. Italy’s top court upheld the sentence in 2022, whilst also issuing an international arrest warrant. The Brazilian court will now decide whether or not to impose the warrant and arrest Robinho, pending a possible challenge. Robinho lives in Santos outside Sao Paulo in Brazil and surrendered his passport to the authorities in March. The former Brazil international’s lawyers insist their client had consensual sexual relations with a woman at a bar, along with five other people.
