A new study has found that COVID-19 lockdowns have reduced the amount of light physical activity people are doing. Researchers examined people’s activity levels between 2019 and 2020. The study included people of all physical abilities, including those in wheelchairs. Before COVID-19 lockdowns began, the average participant did 84.5 minutes of light activity each day. During the pandemic, participants did 25 minutes less light activity every day. The study authors say everyone should move their bodies for 5 minutes every hour and do 30 minutes of extra light activity. Light activity can include yoga or chair exercises.
