Six EU member states will receive 356 migrants boarding the Ocean Viking rescue ship, the European Union's top migration official said on Friday. “We welcome that a solution has been found for the people on board the Ocean Viking and that they will all be resettled,” EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said on Twitter. He praised Malta for allowing the ship to dock and the migrants to disembark. He added that the countries that agreed to receive them were France, Germany, Romania, Luxembourg, Portugal and Ireland. The ship had picked up the migrants two weeks earlier. French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said that his country would receive 150 of the 356 migrants on board the ship flying the Norwegian flag. The migrants were stranded while waiting for approval for the ship to enter a port after Malta refused to receive it, and Italy refused to respond to requests to receive migrants.
