On Saturday, Italian authorities arrested seven fishermen, after they were filmed helping illegal immigrants cross the Mediterranean. A reconnaissance plane belonging to the European Union border guard, Frontex, had filmed a video clip of smugglers 100 kilometers south of the island of Lampedusa. In the video clip, the fishing boat crew appears as they transfer about 81 migrants to a small boat, which then heads to Italy, while the fishing boat returns to the Libyan shores. It is noteworthy that the fishing boat crew left the migrants without water or food, and that they were rescued and transported to the island of Lampedusa.
