Migrants in a detention center in Libya said they are forced to live in unsanitary conditions and often suffer from food shortages. In the only detention center in Sebha, the largest southern city in Libya, 19-year-old immigrant Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim works every day in the kitchen. Ibrahim arrived in Libya eight months ago. A patrol from the Immigration Control Department stopped Ibrahim in Benghazi, and then continued to transfer him from one center to another until he arrived at the Sabha center, which has a capacity to accommodate more than 45 people. Ibrahim says that the conditions in the Sabha center are difficult, and that international organizations have neglected them for a long time, as the most basic life facilities are missing, and the migrants face a shortage of food, drinking water, and cleaning materials. There are vacant places in the center of Sabha for migrants, as many have been deported, while those who remained, like Ibrahim, refuse to return to their countries to avoid living in conflict. For his part, Deputy Director of the Sabha Center, Muhammad Jibril, also complains about the miserable conditions in the center, and says that providing basic needs, such as water, food, and cleaning materials, would improve the quality of services provided to immigrants at the center.
