Players on Spain’s World Cup-winning team are set to receive a record amount of prize money after their 1-0 win over England. Those involved in the win are set to receive $270,000 each, with a $110 million performance-based fund set to be distributed amongst teams. England’s players will receive $195,000 each, with the money given out said to be four times as much as the funds distributed at the last World Cup. Sweden and hosts Australia, who featured in the third-place play-off, are set to receive $180,000 and $165,000 respectively. Countries are also poised to receive their own cut, with even those who didn’t make it out of the groups set to make over $1.5 million. FIFA announced before the tournament that a total of $152 million of prize money would be handed out at the end of the tournament. The record prize money is still almost three times less than the amount given out at Qatar, with FIFA committed to continuing the push for equality.
